Young people will present their innovative projects in Prague!
Prague, May 17, 2019 – Workshops for high school and university students took place in the Czech Republic from April 24. The aim was to draw the attention of young people to the importance of their interest in the environment they live in. A series of six workshops on “Democracy and Me” was completed on Friday, May 10 at the Regional Office in České Budějovice. These events organized during the European Youth Week presented to young people (not only) opportunities for civic participation, but also ways and opportunities for communicating, consulting and subsequently changing problems in their neighborhood in concrete steps. Several teams then decided to devote their free time to elaborating their proposals and now they can present at the final conference, which will take place on Monday, May 20 at 10 AM in Prague.
Young participants decided to deal with a wide range of areas – environmental, social, cultural or educational. Thus, concrete projects include, for example, proposals to improve the air in cities Most and Litvínov, to establish cultural cooperation with the Romanian Banat, to help with the integration of minorities into our society, to improve education, to repair Stromovka sports grounds in České Budějovice and to improve public life in Ostrava.
Projects and their presentation will be evaluated at the conference by an expert jury composed of representatives of the Centre for International Cooperation in Education (DZS), the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic or the Czech Council of Children and Youth. The authors of the most successful ones will receive interesting prizes and at the same time, they will be advised on how to proceed with projects. However, teams whose projects have not been selected for presentation can also participate in the conference, as additional opportunities for civic participation and funding for similar projects will be presented during the whole day. Afterward, all participants can attend “the Opportunity Fair”, where a wide range of motivation and presentation of successful initiatives will be offered.
The workshops and the final conference are being prepared by the the Centre for International Cooperation in Education (DZS), a semi-budgetary organisation, established by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with EUTIS, o.p.s.
